About Us

Bass Racing was established by Mike Bass, and is now run by his daughter Candice Robinson.

Although syndication in South Africa was not new at the time, The Centenary Club were the first to pioneer mass-micro-syndication in South Africa, by introducing our first 100-member syndicate with a filly called Nippy Winter. She went on to be an absolute star for her owners and the concept in South Africa took off.  Until then, Syndication had been limited to 20 shares with irrational start-up costs and unnecessary barriers which deterred the average person as it made it confusing and difficult to become an owner or to access our great sport. Our aim was to make it easy, affordable and accessible.

Purchasing your share through Centenary made owning horses fun and sociable and we have grown from strength to strength ever since. The Centenary club now has over 600 members and offers something to suit everyone’s budget and preferences from 6 to 200  member syndicates, but the concept remains the same. Whatever share you own, we will make sure you get the royal treatment and have the best experience in Race Horse ownership in South Africa.

Candice Bass Robinson

Using her father’s expert grounding she got off to a flying start winning South Africa’s most prestigious Grade 1 race, the Vodacom Durban July in her first year of training. In so doing, she made South African history and rocketed into the top 10 of the world rankings for female trainers.
